Diddy do you think this was a good idea?
Wearing offensive clothing seems like a Halloween tradition at this point. This year, college students have been scorned online for donning blackface so they can disguise themselves as disgraced rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs for the 2024 Scream season.
The original TikTok video and the poster’s social media accounts have since been deleted, according to the Daily Mail, but not before the clip exploded on X and other TikTok channels, where it racked up millions of views.
In the controversial footage, originally titled ‘how the band chat dressed up for Halloween’, a Caucasian couple can be seen co-starring as the Bad Boy Records producer, who is currently awaiting trial for sex trafficking, blackmail and transportation to engage in prostitution.
The man is seen wearing black face along with a dark blazer, red bow tie and white Adidas sneakers. Meanwhile, his blonde partner-in-crime sports a pink hat and pink shirt with a sign that reads “Johnson’s Baby” while holding a bottle of said product.
She was apparently referring to the federal raid that turned up 1,000 bottles of baby lube and oil — which many accusers believed were linked to a date-rape drug — at the rapper’s home.
Other costumes in the photo montage included Jesse and Woody from the movies “Toy Story” and Cruella de Vil and one of the dirty dogs from “101 Dalmatians.”
Viewers were horrified by the colorless attempt at a culturally significant costume.
“Any excuse for blackface,” one commenter on X blasted alongside a video of the late comedian Paul Mooney shaking his head.
“Oh wow this is not right at all” complained another under a TikTok repost of the original clip.
A third wrote in the same comment section, “Not a single friend in sight to tell them ‘hey, this is a really bad idea.'”
“Goodbye college,” we all say in unison,” said another critic.
Others thought the costume was uninspired in addition to offensive.
“Besides the nasty open blackface, this is just a super lazy version of Diddy,” said one user of X. “He didn’t mind wearing white, signature glasses or SOMETHING??? A f-king red bow tie, blazer and black face is supposed to give Diddy????”
The identity of these cretinous players remains unclear.
However, the woman who posted the controversial costume party, who is not believed to be the woman in the photo, reportedly attends San Diego State University (SDSU) in California, the Daily Mail reported.
Critics recently shared contact information for the university and asked people to voice their displeasure with the tone-deaf stunt.
An SDSU spokesperson addressed the incident in a statement to the Daily Mail.
“Our team is working to confirm information, including the location and names and affiliations of the individuals involved,” they said. “We appreciate the willingness of people who have come forward to share information with the university.”
The representative added, “The use of blackface and any actions that condone sexual assault are deeply offensive and have no place in a respectful and caring community.”
Unfortunately, this is far from the first time someone has come under fire for performing a modern-day “minstrel show” to celebrate All Hallow’s Eve.
Earlier this month, freshman GOP Rep. Mike Lawler apologized after old photos of him masquerading as Michael Jackson while in blackface at a Halloween party were reported by the New York Times.
