Millionaire matured over LinkedIn announcement ‘shudders’: ‘LinkedIn is a disease’

Millionaire James Watt, co-founder of UK beer chain Brewdog, took to LinkedIn to announce his engagement – but he got more than he bargained for.

The platform, usually reserved for people to share their workplace success stories or corporate musings, was also where Mr. Watt decided to give a personal update.

Watt decided to embrace the corporate jargon and revealed that he proposed to his girlfriend former reality TV star Georgia Toffolo.

“I made a very good deal at the end of last week. It is a long-term contractual arrangement which looks poised for growth in the future. Both business and personal”, he wrote. “A lot of mutual investment.”

According to sun the businessman is worth at least $400 million.

Watt then attached a photo of himself and his bride-to-be showing off her engagement ring.

The post was re-shared on X. The user attached a screenshot of the LinkedIn post and joked,

“LinkedIn is a disease.”

That tweet received over a million views.

People online were divided about Watt’s choice to share his engagement news with his LinkedIn network.

“I will die from shaking,” wrote one.

“This is absolutely hilarious and iconic,” argued another.

“Good grief,” remarked another.

“How nice,” said someone else.

“Oh this is bad,” wrote one, then added the vomit emoji to hammer home their point.

“This is very shameful. I’d give her the ring back,” someone else said.

Despite the backlash, Ms Toffolo is happily sharing the news of her engagement on her Instagram, where she has nearly 2 million followers.

On Instagram, she said that the engagement was “the best moment” of her life.

“James asked me to marry him. It was truly the best moment of my life so far,” she said. “I never knew I could feel happiness like this. Easier, faster yes to be your wife.”

“I love you forever and the magical life we’re building.”

She then followed that post up with another post where she appeared about him again.

“No one tells you how intense the excitement is! I’m on top of the world! Also the luckiest girl in the world! Overwhelmed with happiness! I want to shout from the rooftops,” she added.

Watt also posted about their engagement on Instagram and broke the news in a more casual way.

“I am so grateful that we were able to find each other and even more grateful that we are building our lives together,” he said.
